Limitless Potential

Today I wanted to share some exciting news.  I have had a concept for almost a year now, since August of last year to be exact.  I told myself that I would make a list of three people I know who might have insight as to how to help me with this idea.  I forced myself to contact one person per day and take notes on all their feedback.  An interesting thing happened, serendipity maybe.  Each person directed me to the next on my list, which was quite incredible.  When I spoke to the third person they actually believed in the idea and encouraged me to come up with a business plan.

Now, as you may already know, I try to include my kids in everything.  Maybe because for several hours in the day they are the only human life form I am interacting with at times; however, for me, I have always believed that we do not give our kids enough credit. So at a very young age I started asking them “What do you think?”  I may just include them in certain issues we are faced with and see if maybe they come up with a better approach.  I realize that children can give us something many adults cannot…an imagination.  They see limitless potential in everything.  For some reason, as we grow older we lose our enthusiasm to see the limitless potential in things.  We let work, responsibilities, and negative experiences get the best of us.

So, as I was saying, I started on my business plan in the end of January.  I cannot lie, it took me several months of back and forth to really finalize the concept and get it down on paper.  When I was at the final stages, I mention the idea to my kids and my son provided great feedback and concepts that I actually added to the idea.  In addition, he decides that he would like to come up with his own business plan.  Therefore, I give him a copy of mine so that he may use a similar format and of course in just one week he has finalized his own idea and has a typed up business plan. It is possible that I am the forever cheerleader for my family but I truly believe he came up with an amazing idea.  We went back to our contact and they love both ideas.  Although extremely terrifying, I am thinking that my son and I should pursue both.

I probably would never have finished my plan had my son not jumped on the bandwagon and finished first. I knew at that point that I had to be an example although in fact he was an example to me.  He is fearless in expressing his ideas and is not paralyzed by limitations.

As for whether we will conceptualize both ideas…to be continued.  But we have a meeting for both next week and that is one step closer than where we were yesterday.
